Database upgrade complete

The database has now been migrated to new and upgraded infrastructure offering increased performance and resilience. Groupsort.com is once again available for creating balanced groups for social, teaching, business and other events. Balancing groups on one characteristic (age, gender, skill level etc.) is easy, but for balancing across several attributes, you need Groupsort – the best resource of its kind on the web!

Scheduled maintenance

The site will be undergoing scheduled maintenance at 12:00 UTC on Wednesday 5th April (1:00pm UK time), whilst the databases are being upgraded. Groupsort will be unavailable for up to one hour while the work is being carried out, so if you are using the site on that day, please be sure to exit in good time, to avoid losing any work.

Minor refresh: spreadsheet support and security

Just to let users know that the groupsort.com website has just had a minor refresh, touching on two main areas:

Spreadsheet support

We have added the ability to import data from Excel-format spreadsheets, in addition to the CSV files we have always supported. So instead of having to convert your .XLS or .XLSX file to CSV, you can upload the file directly.

HTTPS

We also now default to using HTTPS when accessing the website. This should be entirely transparent to users, as the site will automatically move you to a secure connection if you use a bookmark pointing to an old, non-HTTPS address.

Other changes

There are one or two other changes and fixes that have gone in, to do with documentation, cookie notifications etc. Nothing earth-shattering though!

If you have any feedback, comments or requests then do send them to us via the groupsort.com message page, and we will do our best to respond.

Maintenance successful

Just to confirm that all our scheduled server maintenance ran to plan, and services should now be back to normal with minimum disruption. Please contact us if you are experiencing any problems with the groupsort.com site.

Scheduled server maintenance

Some routine maintenance is planned for the groupsort.com web server on 14th June (around 9PM GMT). In advance of that, the site may be disrupted for short periods of time as preparations take place. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

New server up and running

The migration of Groupsort to a new server is now complete. It may take a few hours for the new location to be updated around the internet, but the updated address (new.groupsort.com) should work in the interim.

All accounts and data have been moved over, and everything should work pretty well exactly as before, so if you experience any problems using the new version then we would be very grateful if you could let us know in the comments below.

Sorry for any disruption that may have happened during this process. We hope that, from here, everything will run smoothly!
